International Competitions(国际竞赛)

Mathematics(数学)

The American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8) is a contest for students in grades 8 and below, hosted annually by the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) to students all over the United States.

The American Mathematics Contest 10 (AMC 10), along with the AMC 12, is one of the first exams in the series of exams used to challenge bright students, grades 10 and below, on the path towards choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). High scoring AMC 10 and AMC 12 students are invited to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).

The American Mathematics Contest 12 (AMC 12) is the first exam in the series of exams used to challenge bright students, grades 12 and below, on the path towards choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). High scoring AMC 12 students are invited to take the more challenging American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).

The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is the second exam in the series of exams used to challenge bright students on the path toward choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). High scoring AIME students are invited to take the prestigious United States of America Mathematics Olympiad (USAMO).

The United States of America Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) is the third test in a series of exams used to challenge bright students on the path toward choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO).

Physics(物理)

The PhysicsBowl Contest is an international high school competition. School teams compete regionally. Students will take a 40-question, 45-minute timed, multiple-choice test under their school’s supervision. There are 2 divisions, Division I and Division II, for first and second year physics students respectively. The team part of the competition is where the tops five scores for each division are added together to produce a team score. Individuals compete in regions, 14 of which as U.S., while 5 are China. Awards and prizes are given to the top 2 schools and top 2 individuals in a region/division.

The British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) is to encourage the study of physics and to recognise excellence in young physicists through ten annual physics competitions. Top Gold winners (top 2%) in Round 1 will be invited to Round 2.

The F=ma exam is a 75-minute exam with 25 multiple choice questions focusing on mechanics. Two versions of the exam are given, the F=ma A and F=ma B. Approximately 400 students will be invited to take the USA Physics Team (USAPhO) exam, based on their scores on the F=ma exam. Students must be either U.S. Citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders), or currently attending a U.S. school, to take the F-ma exam.

The USAPhO is a 3-hour free response exam where students are required to justify their answers. The exam is divided into two parts of 90 minutes each. Approximately 20 students will be invited to be a part of the U.S. Physics Team, based on their USAPhO and F=ma scores, and attend a ten-day training camp at the University of Maryland. At the end of the camp, five students will be selected to represent the team at the International Physics Olympiad. Students must be either U.S. Citizens, or U.S. Permanent Residents (Green Card holders) to take the USAPhO exam. Students must also be located in the U.S. to take the USAPhO exam.
